Match Play Camps

Play more tennis with High 5 this Summer 2026

“Can we just play some matches?”

It’s one of the questions we hear most from our junior players. We know that while coaching sessions are essential for developing technique, there comes a point where players simply want to get out on court and put those skills into practice, to compete, solve problems, test themselves and enjoy the challenge of playing real opponents.

That’s why, this summer, we’re doing something different. Rather than running traditional coaching weeks, we’re dedicating four days entirely to match play across three sessions, each one designed around how children actually learn to compete, whatever age or stage they’re starting from.

Because sometimes, the best way to become a better tennis player is simply to play more tennis.

First Matches (Ages 5–6)

9:00–10:30am — a gentle, playful introduction to what playing a match actually feels like. Using mini courts, soft balls and simple scoring, children get their first taste of serving, rallying and playing a real point against a friend, in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

£10 per day, or £30 if you book all 4 days.

Mini Match Play Camp (Ages 7–10)

9:00am–12:00pm — players take everything they’ve learned on the practice court and try it out in real, low-pressure matches against children of a similar age and ability. Coaches guide them through the basics of match play: scoring, serving, sportsmanship, and how to respond when things don’t go their way.

£20 per day, or £60 if you book all 4 days.

Match Play & Competition Camp (Ages 10+)

Afternoon session (1-4pm) — a full week of competitive matches against players of a similar standard, with rankings updated throughout the week to create fresh challenges and chances to move up. Ideal for players preparing for tournaments, building match experience, or simply looking to compete.

£20 per day, or £60 if you book all 4 days.

No matter the starting point

All three sessions use ability-based grouping (“boxes”), updated throughout the week, so every match is fair, every player is appropriately challenged, and there’s always a realistic next box to climb into. Players are welcome whether they’ve had years of lessons or only a handful, the boxes do the work of finding them the right level.

First Matches

For our youngest players, a tennis match doesn't need to be complicated — it just needs to be fun.

This hour-long session is a gentle, playful introduction to what playing a match actually feels like. Using mini courts, soft balls and simple scoring, children will get their first taste of serving, rallying and playing a “real” point against a friend — all in a relaxed, encouraging environment with plenty of coach support.

It’s the perfect first step before stepping into a full match play camp.

What to expect

Mini Match Play Camp

The best way to learn how to play matches is simply to play matches.

Most young players don’t really know what a tennis match actually is until they play one.

They learn forehands, backhands and footwork in coaching sessions — but matches have their own rules, rhythm and etiquette that can only really be picked up by doing it. Who serves first? What happens when the ball lands on the line? How do you keep score? What do you do when you lose a point?

That’s why we’ve created our Mini Match Play Camp.

This is where young players take everything they’ve learned on the practice court and try it out in real, low-pressure matches against children their own age and ability. We’ll guide them through the basics of match play — scoring, serving, sportsmanship, and what to do when things don’t go their way — so that by the end of the week, playing a match feels familiar rather than daunting.

Children will be grouped by ability so every match is fair and fun, with plenty of encouragement and support from our coaches throughout.

A full afternoon of tennis matches for older juniors

“Can we just play some matches?”

One of the questions we hear most from our junior players. We know that while coaching sessions are essential for developing technique, there comes a point where players simply want to get out on court and put those skills into practice. They want to compete, solve problems, test themselves and enjoy the challenge of playing real opponents.

That’s why we’ve created our Match Play & Competition Camp.

Over the course of the week, players will spend their time doing what they love most — playing tennis. They’ll compete in plenty of matches against players of a similar standard, with rankings updated throughout the week to create fresh challenges and exciting opportunities to move up.

To make sure every match is competitive and enjoyable, players are grouped into boxes based on ability. This means whether your child has been playing for years or has only had a handful of lessons, they’ll be matched against opponents at the right level for them — so every game is close, every result matters, and there’s always a realistic next box to climb into.

This format gives every player the chance to enjoy competitive, balanced matches while developing the tactical awareness, decision-making, resilience and confidence that only comes from match play.

Whether your child is preparing for tournaments, building match experience for the first time, or simply loves competing, this camp provides a fun, supportive environment where every match is meaningful and every player has the opportunity to improve.

Because sometimes, the best way to become a better tennis player is simply to play more tennis.
